A quota is a government imposed restriction.

Here are two things to remember:
Imposed means to force.
Restriction means limitation.

Therefore, a quota means that a government is forcing a limitation. During class today we talked about how in 1920 the US government created a quota to restrict immigration for certain foreigners while making it easier for Northern Europeans to enter.

Demographic refers to the amount of people that make up a population. For example, the number of births, deaths, and income in a specific population pertains to the demography of the area.
