(a) gray area 
애매한 부분 ; 명확하게 정의할 수 없고 또 두개 이상의 범주와 관련되어 특정한 범주에 넣을 수 없는 것
1. An area of a subject or question that is difficult to put into a particular category because it is not clearly defined and 
may have connections or associations with more than one category. 
2. Indeterminate territory, undefined position, neither here nor there.


Examples ) 

The responsibility for social studies in the college is a gray area. Several departments are involved.
그 대학에서는 사화학 연구를 담당하는 곳이 어디인지 분명하지 않다. 몇개의 학부가 관련 되어 있다.

There's a large gray area between what is legal and what is not.
